Our Quartets One of the fun and rewarding things we do is sing in quartets. Our members participate in four great quartets that perform in our annual show and on their own at private functions like weddings, parties, and community activities.
Enjoy Our Quartets: Doodle Dandies Quartet The Doodle Dandies Quartet feature harmony and humor in fun packages of song from several musical eras. We've sung for everything from ladies aid groups to donkey basketball games, but mostly for conventions and barbershop shows around the Northern Rockies." The Doodle Dandies formed initially to be an integral part of the Montana Centennial Barbershop Chorus that toured Montana in 1989 and again with the Millenium Chorus in 2000 with performances in Austria, Germany, Belgium, and France. The Doodle Dandies are an accountant, professional pilot, college professor, and research scientist—you figure out which is which. But they share one thing in common—they love to sing and entertain and have fun with their wide variety of audiences. The Doodle Dandies are strong supporters of youth music programs locally and statewide.
The Quaternions Quartet The Quaternions Quartet is made up of students and faculty from Montana State University. John Sheppard (lead) is a professor in the computer science department at MSU. Jesse Sheppard (bass) is John's son and a math major at MSU. Shane Strasser (tenor) and Liessman Sturlaugson (baritone) are both PhD students in the computer science department at MSU. While not busy working on scary mathematically intense software systems, these guys love to get together to sing and share their musical talents with others. Since forming in 2010, the quartet has had the pleasure of performing in competition and entertaining groups around the Gallatin Valley at birthday parties, Christmas parties, and other special events.
Bridger Blend Quartet Bridger Blend Quartet started singing together in 2006 and found a lot of enjoyment in performing around the Gallatin Valley where folks recognize their "Bridger" namesake. Bill Ranard (lead) is a retired banking system expert. Gerry Hovland (bass) is also retired from the banking business (and also an expert) and dabbled in insurance, furniture, and a bunch of other occupations. Retired military guys make up the other half of the group. Frank Smith (tenor) is a former USN Captain and MD. Dave Schrupp (baritone) is a former USAF officer and MSU teacher. Bridger Blend won the Novice Category in the 2007 Division 5 competition, but they mostly just like to ring some chords and have a LOT of fun.
Boothill Betterment Society Quartet The Boothill Betterment Society Quartet has been performing their comedy routines throughout the West and Canada since 1984. The quartet is best known for its "western" style comedy. Milt Gray, singing lead, is retired from the Air Force and from the "real world." He spends most of his time trying to keep the tenor in line. Gary Prue is also retired from the Air Force and private business, sings baritone and keeps the quartet on the straight and narrow. He is also Director of the Great Falls Treasure Statesmen Chorus. Singing bass and bringing a touch of class to the quartet is Sig Dehn. Sig is retired from the Montana Air National Guard and is also a retired Northwest Airlines (now Delta) Captain. The quartet "fool" is Roger Morton. Roger sings tenor and doesn't have a clue, but is never one to miss a good time. Roger has been in barbershop 37 years and is a former director of the Great Falls Treasure Statesmen Chorus and a Helena a capella Jubilee Xpress Sweet Adelines Chorus. He has recently retired from Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Montana. The quartet got together when all were members of the Great Falls Treasure Statesmen Chorus. Now only Milt and Gary continue to live in Great Falls. With Roger living near Helena and Sig in Bozeman, rehearsals have become a "driving" experience. But since we all share a love of music and of singing and entertaining, we don't mind. |
